Hi Everyone!!! We had an amazing Neutral Buoyancy meeting last night. I am so happy some of you could make it. I would like to say thank you to Lou for his hard work preparing and presenting last night. He did a great job.

Club Announcements!!!

Hi Everyone!!!!

I am so excited to make a couple of announcements for Neutral Buoyancy that I might come off a little more cheerleader like than usual!!! hahaha Our club is coming along with the help of all our members and non-members alike. The kindess that exudes from all of you amazes me and I thank each of you for being wonderful.

The first exciting bit of news: One of my favorite people, Gus Bricker had an amazing idea that he shared with me to help our veterans, wounded or not, get into diving. I spoke with Mike Meyers about it and of course Mike being as great as he is said that Northshore Aquatics will provide a 25% discount on open water courses to veterans. This act of paying it forward is just the beginning. In time and with the help of others I am hoping all of us can do more.

The second thing I would like to announce to you is: Northshore Aquatics, Neutral Buoyancy and the SeaHawk are working together to get divers in the water!!!!! In order to help facilitate boat dives we have chartered the SeaHawk for July 1, 15 and 29th which is every other Sunday in July!!!! August is still pending. This is an amazing opportunity for club members to check out the wealth of wrecks off Long Island's coast. The SeaHawk is a friendly and well run boat with a captain and crew that care for their passengers. The greatest part of these charter dates is the times that they go out!!!! Each charter will leave the dock at 12:30pm!!!! Oh I know that has to be a relief for all of you that have complained to me about 6am dive boat departures!!!! hahaha Well instead of getting you a tissue to dry your tears, we decided to get you a better departure time. hahaha Just playing.

For those of you who were unable to attend the meetings I wanted to also announce the idea of another favorite club member whom I respect and think the world of even though he wont let me give him credit here. The Pro-Am is our plan to give novice divers a chance to get in the water. On a voluntary basis experienced divers will pair up with newer divers at dive sites, such as Ponquogue Bridge to make the dive experience safer and more enjoyable.

Every fire begins with the strike of just one match (or rubbing some sticks together if you're that motivated hahaha). Your ideas are important to me. No matter how big or small they are they each have the potential to burn bright. Please share. This is go time! Our community needs to focus on getting people young and old into the water. Thank you so much for all of your help.

Safe Diving!!!!
Lisa

Our February 6th 2012 Neutral Buoyancy meeting was a success. Our topic was historical diving equipment. Bob Rusnak and Jerry Takasc were kind enough to speak to Neutral Buoyancy about the Mark IV U.S. Navy Gear. This gear shown in the pictures below dates back nearly 70 years. The helmet was made in Brooklyn in 1943 and weighs about 65lbs by itself. The total suit that I am dressed in weighs about 200lbs. Each shoe is 15lbs a piece. Its always amazing to take part in historical diving.

Great Meeting/Call for help!

Tonight's meeting was wonderful! I wish more of you could have made it. Karl Kelso did an amazing job showing us what is involved with technical diving. It was almost like the first day of class in a tech course. I was amazed at how much we learned. I've actually asked Karl to come back and speak again after the holidays and when people have more time to make the meeting. I even put on Karl's doubles that weigh 120lbs and walked around in my high heels mind you!!! lol

Karl I want to thank you so much for all of your help. Thank you for taking the time to bring in all of your gear and sharing some of your expertise. I was so impressed by the entire presentation. You never cease to amaze me how wonderful you are. :)

Call for help!! I am calling on each and everyone of you as parts of Neutral Buoyancy to help me make this a better club. I need your input and your help. Kevin M. has been kind enough to offer his time in building the Neutral Buoyancy website linking it to the Northshore Aquatic website. Others have offered help in setting up our beach calendar for next year so we have more of a set schedule of dives so you can all plan in advance which ones you can do. Mike and I have talked with the marina to make sure we have the room scheduled for the meetings for the next three months. Still others have given suggestions for meeting topics.

I am desperate for your input. Please tell me what I can do to make this the best possible club for you! If you have ideas for meetings topics let me know I will set it up. If you have ideas for dives PLEASE let me know I will set them up. If you have ideas for anything LET ME KNOW, I will make sure it gets accomplished if at all possible. My goal is to get you in the water! I want us all to be able to look into our log books and say "Hey cool! I dove my butt off this year!" Remember I'm the Divemaster, my job is to assist. I want to assist all of you getting in the water.

If you have any ideas you would like to share please email me. Alot of you have my number you can call too. I promise to answer. lol Have a wonderful night everyone!!!
